Chief’s Letter

Upon accepting the position of police chief in the City of Miami Gardens, I realized I was about to embark on a journey few can comprehend.  Starting a police department from the ground up has been and will continue to be a labor intensive effort that has been very rewarding.   As I continue to meet with residents and business owners in the City, I find a spirit of excitement and anticipation regarding the expectations of this police department and people’s desire to be safe and secure.

I give the citizens of Miami gardens my pledge to act swiftly, fairly and consistently in stamping out the criminal element within our city.  This Department will treat people with respect and dignity while ensuring that out motto “Building a Safer Community” is met.  I believe that the community and the police department must be partners in our quest to reduce crime in our community and I encourage all citizens of Miami Gardens to join with me in this effort.

I began my career on the streets of Miami Dade County and a major portion of my career was spent in the City of Miami Gardens.  I have seen the City grow over the years and from many different levels.  It is my sincere desire to serve the citizens of this great City with pride and commitment and give them a place to call home where they are free from fear.  Please join myself and our officers in combating crime in our city to make it a great place to live, work and play.  Together we can make a difference and will see the positive results of our efforts.

Sincerely,
Matthew Boyd
