Your Command Personnel
Alfred
Lewers Jr. is the Support Services Captain
responsible for the Records Unit, Property &
Evidence Section, Fleet, Information Technology,
and the Facilities & Equipment management.
Prior
to coming to the Miami Gardens Police Department,
Captain Lewers retired from the Fort Lauderdale
Police Department as the Lieutenant in charge
of Recruiting, Background Investigations, Training,
and the Alarm Units. During his tenure with the
Department, he held positions as the Recruiting
Unit Supervisor, Public Information Officer, and
a Patrol supervisor. He was also an investigator
in both the Criminal Investigations and Special
Investigations Divisions, where he specialized
in the areas of Juvenile Crimes, Auto Theft, Racketeering,
Mid-level and Upper-level Narcotics Investigations.
He was a member of the agency’s SWAT team as a
Hostage Negotiator, and a part of the Department’s
Honor Guard.
Captain Lewers holds a bachelor’s degree in Public
Administration from the Union Institute & University.
Captain Lewers is also a graduate of Florida Atlantic
University’s Center for Advanced Criminal Justice
Studies’ Executive Leadership course.
His affiliations and memberships include, Chairman
of the Board of Directors for the Community Hope
Center of Fort Lauderdale, National Association
of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the
Kiwanis Club of Miami Gardens, International Association
for Property and Evidence, Miami-Dade County Association
of Chiefs of Police, and the Fraternal Order of
Police. He is also on Keiser University’s Criminal
Justice Advisory Committee, a member of the Fort
Lauderdale’s Black Police Officer’s Association,
Eastern Region Police Recruiters Association,
the National Association of Police Recruiters,
and a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale.
Captain Lewers and Maxine, his wife of twenty
years, are the proud parents of four children,
Victoria, Alfred III, Grant and Rebecca.
